FAQ's
What is Neuromonitoring, and how does MindSync Monitoring use it?
Neuromonitoring, or Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM), tracks neurological function during specific types of surgery. At MindSync Monitoring, our trained Surgical Neurophysiologists use specialized equipment to monitor in the operating room and along with our Neurologists provide real-time feedback to the surgical team, reducing the risk of nerve damage and enhancing patient outcomes.
What services does MindSync Monitoring provide in the operating room?
Our Surgical Neurophysiologists apply electrodes in specific locations along the patient’s anatomy, which connect to our monitoring system for continuous observation during surgery. Our Neurologists interpret the data remotely in real-time and collaborate with the surgical team to advise if any changes in data occur. This helps maintain the patient’s neurological integrity.
Why might my surgeon recommend neuromonitoring for my procedure?
Your surgeon may recommend IONM for various reasons, including establishing a baseline for neurological activity, monitoring nerve function throughout the surgery, and ensuring optimal patient positioning. These precautions help improve outcomes, and many surgeries involving the central or peripheral nervous system now use neuromonitoring as part of standard care. If you have questions, please consult with your physician.
Who are the medical professionals involved in my procedure?
In addition to your surgeon and anesthesiologist, a MindSync Monitoring Surgical Neurophysiologists will join your surgical team to monitor nerve function, alongside a Neurologist who analyzes real-time data remotely. All these professionals work seamlessly to support your procedure’s safety and success.
What can I expect from MindSync Monitoring on the day of my surgery?
After pre-op nursing staff prepare you for surgery, you’ll meet a MindSync Surgical Neurophysiologist, who will explain the monitoring process and answer any questions. Once you go to the operating room and are anesthetized, the Surgical Neurophysiologist will begin applying electrodes and perform neuromonitoring. Monitoring continues throughout the procedure until closing of the incision.
Are there any risks associated with neuromonitoring?
IONM is a non-invasive, painless procedure with very low risk. While all procedures carry some risk, neuromonitoring has a minimal incidence of complications. Your surgeon or physician can provide further information if you have specific concerns.
How is neuromonitoring billed, and who is responsible for payment?
In many cases, insurance plans cover a portion of IONM services. Coverage depends on your specific insurance provider and plan. We recommend contacting your insurance carrier to understand your benefits. MindSync Monitoring’s billing team is also available to assist with questions.
